Now

Not just any air that makes the trees sway
But this one that is cooling my skin now

Not just any rustling leaves
But this one I am hearing now

Not just any sun that makes the dewdrops shimmer
But this one that is warming my face now

Not just any flower swirling in the meadow
But this one I am touching and smelling now

Not just any bench
But this one I am sitting on now

The dust that dances gaily
In this ray of sun peeping through the trees

This man, the warmth emanating from his skin
As he enfolds me in his arms
His breath on my cheeks
The smell of his cologne
His hands that are enveloping mine

I am here
Present in this moment
Aware, awake, alert, amaze, attuned . . . alive!
Life just loves to demonstrate its power
I will not stand back
I will exuberantly dance with it!

hi, there, tes, dear! i am so glad to see you here! there, i've rated your poem. please write to me and tell me how you like this site! keep well!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
