Once Upon A Time
in the not so distant past.
There were two people
who thought their time together would last.
One day they met by chance,
and all it took was just one glance.
They both thought this could be the one,
as they talked amidst the setting sun.
Neither wanted to leave but stay,
they cherished the time spent that day.
As they both got in their cars,
they realized love could not be that far.
The next few months were total bliss,
and they ended each night with a kiss.
They made love under candlelight,
and knew everything felt just right.
Then came a day when tragedy struck,
and one of them almost ran out of luck.
You see they found out he had a bad heart,
and neither one of them knew it at the start.
As he lay in that hospital bed,
she couldn't get the thought of losing him out of her head.
When she was alone all she did was cry,
because she really thought he was going to die.
She knew she had to be strong,
because his time on earth may not be long.
For them both it was a scary time,
because one of their lives had just stopped on a dime.
As time went on and he started getting better,
they talked about moving in together.
They wanted to do this for the feelings they had,
and not just because their credit was bad.
Then came a time when he needed to get away,
and yes at home she had stayed.
She decided one night to give him a call,
and that's when she heard it all.
Once upon a time
in the not so distant past.
There were two people
who's time together did not last.
There is some good news I need to tell,
they are both doing well.
They decided to remain friends,
and that will make them better in the end.
Maybe in time as their friendship grows,
they'll see they were meant for each other,
who knows!
