    Passion Lost

His eyes looked round the darkened room

As he pondered his wishful luck

Until he reached her beautiful gaze

With a flash, he was love struck.

He looked away then back again

    Just to be really certain

Her eyes were fixed upon him

She smiled, he knew she was flirting.

His heart was pounding very fast

She was now starting to twitch

Who would make the very first move

    He nervously began to itch.

As if in tandem, they both decided

The attraction was drawing them in

They moved toward each other with haste

    Their fire was burning within.

She reached out her hand to put in his

Their paths are about to be crossed

At that split moment he tripped and fell over

    Alas, that was passion lost.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
