Poem Commentary

Kind of self explanatory

Playing Pretend

I pretend everything's okay between him and me.

I pretend everything's just fine.

I pretend that it doesn't bother me,

I pretend that I'm not cryin'.

He pretends he really loves me.

He pretends he doesn't see the tears.

He pretends to really listen to me,

He pretends he has no fears.

Everything seems so much easier,

When we're both playing retend.

Everything seems so much easier,

But this pretending has to end.

the line where you talk about pretending being easier, and you are both pretending got me thinking about howe many relationships are out there where everyone is just pretending...walking dead to themselves.. great read, and it's great to finally meet another teen poet here.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
