Biography

a meaningful biography...much too long for our attention here...so let's begin with a poetic tribute instead...~Karen Lynn circa 1975 (age 13)

A philosopher maybe
A poet indeed
A foe or a friend
Whatever in need

I stand on your conscience
I breathe of your thoughts
You fret and you worry for things you should not

I am of what I am to be
A philosopher maybe
But a poet Indeed?

I still hear my muse giggle mischievously ever time I hear this little diddy read back to me. I call my muse Lynn (my middle name). She first whispered her voice not long before this poem was written and she has been moving my hands and heart to express in written and visual form ever since.

She articulates in many poetic voices, various sounds and dialects to express herself but my favorite is her sweet southern draw because it feels so powerfully authentic to write from that voice.

Poetry is not an elitist literary endeavor for me. Poetry is truly the voice of my muse poring wonderfully fluid from my inner ear through my right hand and onto the blank page. I've never received formal training (obvious right?) but I have kept company with some fantastic poets and writers who generously guided me and help shape a more mature style in recent years. I feel grateful about that.

My creative work continues to evolve and it serves as an expression for all the things my head knows nothin' about. Perhaps that is why I write poetry ... to express things past my head, past the rational knowing I cling to for sense making, past the point of this knowing is a vast abundance of feeling what is true. Yet it is only true in that moment. So I often think of poetry as the audiograph of the soul's movement through this blood life. Photographs capture a visual image of light and poems capture the sound of that light in you.

Enjoy!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
