Biography
Padmore Agbemabiese grew up with his Grandma in the village of Aborkutsime. Padmore says the village of Aborkutsime has a lot to offer the world. To Padmore Agbemabiese his poetry is an ego-supportive work which identifies him with his people in Aborkutsime. His style of poetry reveals his ethnic identity, becoming a core element of his ego identity, was validated by the experience. He develops a domestic voice and subject matter. This makes his poems direct and engaging, bringing his life and works together, establishing a current sense of identity with the community he grew up in, and achieving the lush, redemptive sensuality. In some of the poems, he succumbs to sudden bouts of guilt for leaving the village to a foreign country. In some other poems he confronts the issue directly, briefly assuaging his crisis of identity in the US, but refuses to channel his anger through the vast historical analogues available to him in the US. Instead he becomes elegiac, as he commemorates his Grandma and other kinsmen and women from the village who have influenced him from infancy. Padmore Agbemabiese is published extensively in the US, in Europe and in Africa.
