    "I Am" Poem

I am a drug addict whose soul has been lost.
I wonder how much time I have left, if I have any left.
I hear my conscience telling me to stop as my parents continue to sob.
I see the hurt in their eyes – the damage my addiction has caused.
I want a chance to go back in the past, so I could prevent it before it starts.
I am a drug addict whose soul has been lost.

I pretend that everything’s fine; going on as if nothing’s really wrong.
I feel my control slipping away as I again take yet another trip.
I touch objects that aren’t really there – or at least aren’t what I thought they were.
I worry someday I’ll come to an end, that my whole life will be spend.
I cry at time when it seems that I’m just a waste of bones and skin.
I am a drug addict whose soul has been lost.

I understand I’ve made plenty of mistakes. That I turn my life into the mess it is.
I say that although that’s true, giving up without a fight is something I won’t do.
I dream that one day my errors will be abolished.
I try to make my past long forgotten.
I hope that people won’t underestimate drugs.
I am a drug addict whose soul has been lost.

( It's not about me personally)

Hey girl, I really like this poem. Your a very talented young lady. I like yo style! Peace&Bless.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
