Reasons to stay

These were the reasons to stay.
So many.  The children, the dogs, our friends, the big house
– security.  Marriage is forever, but it wasn’t.  I could list
the reasons to stay. There would be pages of reasons.  But
the reason to leave outweighed them all.  I couldn’t breathe
anymore, I lost myself, and it was years before I found me
again.  It’s not that the reasons to stay were not important or
good enough, God knows they were.  But when you’re lost
you have to lay everything down, quiet your breathing and
start again.  You’ve got to search your soul and be quiet with
yourself.  The prayer is as you rediscover yourself, you can
heal the mess that’s left behind.
