Rewind The Clock

Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem because on so many occasions  we wish we could turn back the hands of time. In the end we realize it is impossible and what happened has happened for a reason. We must learn from our past mistakes and make our future a brighter place. In the same sense we must learn to live with our regrets.

Rewind The Clock

Rewind The Clock

Would you rewind the clock to relive a memory?

Would you turn back time to cure hurt and use it as a remedy?

Would you say something different like, “I don’t” instead of “I do?”

Would you have pulled out your credit card to buy those new shoes?

Would you rewind the clock, to stop a loved one from dying?

Would you take back the words that caused someone’s crying?

Maybe you would go back and re-route your life

You could remove some of the pain and take away the strife

Before you left that day would you have given your mother a hug?

Would you not have taken that drink or said no to the drug?

Would you rewind the clock just because it would feel fulfilling?

Would we all agree that we wouldn’t let the two planes hit are building?

If we could rewind time would we abuse it, could we respect the seasons?

God did not make this possible, because everything that happens, happens for a reason.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
