    Secret of the Heart

    Secret of the Heart
For as long as I could remember and of all the hopes and dreams that I could imagine of ever having there has always been what I call a secret of the heart. A private thought or wish that manifests itself in a way that only the young at heart can conjure up. I think in all honesty everyone regardless of race, sex, or culture possesses this secret. It is sometimes a secret so privately kept that even the person who holds the secret may loose the memory of even having it. It is at most times buried by the events or circumstances of growing and maturing in life. And from this, we seem to pull our heads out of the clouds of wanting something so special and substituted by attempting to accept what our reality brings or offers us. Which in turn we learn to adapt to what is in front of us by convincing ourselves that this is it, and we willingly settle for less in our life.
It is also said that less is sometimes better than nothing at all and to some degree that holds a great deal of merit. For most of us we simply take that less and magnify it in such a way that we find contentment in accepting what we have settled for. If this sounds at all cynical in any way then perhaps you should ask yourself one question…”Are you getting exactly what you want out of your life?”
If the answer you come to is in anyway remotely close to be unsatisfied with your present condition then you have not fulfilled your secret of the heart. We focus our attention on what society say’s we need to be considered successful and we spend at most times a lifetime obtaining these standards. As wealth is something we tend to judge completion by or is it based on the wellness of health, and what about the spiritual aspect of our life, doesn’t that channel in the strength we rely on for the courage we may desire. Let us not ignore the pleasures of relaxation, the joys of recreation, and the entertainment that places humor and laughter in our daily agendas. It is a total balance of everything that is mentioned that gives us fulfillment in life. However, I have left out one most vital and imperative fundamental of existence…Love.
Think back if you will to the very first time you kiss your special someone. Recall how the anticipation of the act itself allowed the sensation to fill you up in such a feeling that you may have thought you were going to explode. The holding of their hand when you walked down the street or the way the two of you looked at each other that no other knew what was in each of your eyes as you stared. How you could not sleep, eat, or even think clearly without images or visions of them invading every thought you owned. It is the way that no matter what you were doing with them as long as the two of you were together the moment seemed to last forever. And being in their arms were so perfect that if life ended right at that second you would be glowing from smiling about them for all eternity…that is the secret we hold in our hearts as we age in life.
When we are all old and grey and sitting around counting the minutes of each day we won’t remember the wealth we had, the things we accomplished, nor will we focus on the spirituality or how healthy we once were. More so, the only pleasure we will attempt to bring to mind will be either the true love we always wish had or the one we are existing in our elderly lives without. The sadness of that future reality centers on one thought to me at this present time and date. Why should I waste precious time now avoiding and fighting against the one thing I will in all likelihood take to my last days on this earth…Love?
It is the secret of the heart to be loved, to be needed; to be wanted by someone that you know truly loves you. The secret of the heart is the greatest of all loves…it is the other half of your soul.

So important is it, your other 'half', your help-mate, your 'soul mate', that it is an essential part of spirituality, too. Not just romantic dreams--but it is the best path for your soul! Love. I don't even need to say it.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
