    Self Destruction

    Have you thought the consequences
    of the things you do
    Realize the kind of pain
you put your loved ones through

Why's it hard for you to see
    the emptiness you give
That all your actions do affect
the kind of life you live

    You're selfish and oblivious
    to the world around you
You hurt the ones you say you love
and make them turn against you

You need to open up your eyes
and see the path you're paving
    Abandoning the ones who care
    the ones whose hearts you're
    breaking

Sit back and take a moment
    to see what you've become
Look through the eyes of all the ones
    who've helped you
    then you shunned

    It's easy to act humble
then take from those you need
But the line is very thin
    between humility and greed

    So understand, don't take defense
    from everything I'm saying
You need to know from where we stand
    self destruction's what you're
    facing.

    Love it!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
