    Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem on the 4th of July last year. exactly 2 days and 18yrs after my grandmother had passed away.

    Shadows

    Shadows on the wall
    Like ghosts in your memory
    Turn out the lights
    And the shdows are gone.
Try to think of happier times
And all you find are ghosts
Some shadows seem to follow you
    Others are walking with you
Turn around because you feel someone there
Except the only thing you find
Is a ghost from your memory
    Playing games with your mind.

    Every memory carries a shadow
    Some forget the times
    Others forget the people
Turn out the light on a shadow
It seems to no longer be there.
The ghosts in your your memory
Forever living in the shadows of your mind
Like a shadow on a wall
So are the ghosts in your memory

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
