    Since That Day

From the day I will forever dread
I have not been the same
I’ve been drowning in my own sorrow
    Just for a getaway
    I hide between the lines
I feel as if I can’t show my face again
    I feel so ashamed
    I’ve betrayed you
    I did something so wrong
And I kept on saying sorry
But all the sorry in me has now gone away
    I feel hopeless and trapped
    Inside of my own lies
    I have sinned
And I wish I could take it back
Since that day I have hid
    Feeling nothing but shame
    I’ve taken pity on myself
    Even though I’m to blame
Since that day I can’t help but run
I did something so wrong for I have sinned.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
