    single red rose

Leaving him was the hardest thing to do

Or so I thought until I met you

You were there whenever I needed you

I was there if you needed me too

The pain I felt is no more

No longer in a boat with no oar

You said " I will love you forever until the last rose dies"

And when you did I felt tears well up in my eyes

Today was not the day to cry

for now i know the rose will never die

The felt rose you left on my porch

Made my heart burn like a torch

     Burn hot enough to scorch

Scorch the single red rose you left on my porch

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
