So Hard To Say Good bye

The minute they lay you upon my chest.
No longer a stranger, and here to bless.
Not for me I fear, but the one's
Who will love you and help you carry on.
It hurts my heart to let you go.
Knowing that you will never know.
How hard it was to let it be so,
And how I cherish the angel I have lost.
The choices we made to give you life.
Not to toil or feel the strife.
Of being poor and helpless and numbered.
It helps me to feel as if I did you justice
    By blessing their lives,
    The one I have entrusted.
I love you now and forever.
It's so hard, so hard to say good-bye.

Evokes powerful emotions of a mother giving her child up for adoption. Thanks for sharing this. Powerful.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
