Something you don't deserve to know

Poem Commentary

Written when i realised a particular "relationship" would only ever be based on one thing and one thing only.

Something you don't deserve to know

A heart that can't be tamed,
beating so fast I can hear it.
I reach out to feel it pulsating
at my trembling fingertips.

A love for you that can't be named,
my hearts racing too, but you can't hear it.
It's dying slowly, it knows what this is;
the nighttime passing of two lonely ships.

Now, my head is being tortured
by sensuous memories, your skin and mine.
I crave your strong touch more than ever,
I crave your filthy afterward moan.

Now, my heart is letting go.
It knows that finally it is time.
It's not meant to be now, Its meant to be never.
You're not worth my love, and you're not worth the pain.
I know.
I know now, I am better off on my own.

As to the work, you’ve composed an affecting peace that doesn’t wallow in misery (I’m grateful for that). As to the subject, be glad you spotted the rot in the apple; now you can spend your time constructively finding one that’s worth your time.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
