    Sweet Dreams

The night is still and quiet
Yet no one hears my screams
The memories that I live each day
    Are invading my sweet dreams

My thoughts are cold and empty
    The tears refuse to come
My soul is all but broken
And my beating heart is numb

And then one day I found you
By fate if not by chance
The memories that held me prisoner
Are left behind without a glance

The night is still and quiet
There are no sounds upon the wind
I close my eyes and drift away
    To dream sweet dreams again

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
