    Take Me Away

    Running low on hope

    my optimism seems to elope

How much longer before I drown

Not any stronger for a frown

The helping hands seem to shrink

Another gallon of betrayal to drink

    Today I'd love to die

Today in peace I can lie

Nothing much to lose, nothing to foresee

Today I'm content with my life

Today I'm in peace with all of earth and those in it

Today I don't owe the world a piece of me

Today I feel like I lost this war

Today is goodbye but tomorrow I might rise

Tomorrow may be better or never ever

But today I'll wait, in patience and at ease

For one who knows patience, knows peace

The peace that I crave, deserve and need.

Today I rest, tomorrow I feast.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
