To be or not to be

To be or not to be

To be or not to be

'Tis the query that bothers we

The miseries and challenges that come with being

Or the obliviousness and confusion that come with not being

The comfort of knowing endorses the curiosity of what more

The serenity of not knowing limits the self exploration to the afore

Now I ask to be or not to be or to not ask at all

The results of either is the emptiness of the heart, et al.

When all is due and life is no more, what would be or not be

Whether I was or never was, will that be a query or a buzzing bee

The comfort of knowing or not, lingers in the present, the life and being

Since all ends when to be is no more, is it better to be or not to be?

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
