The Fallen

The Fallen

As I lie in my bed tonight,

I can’t help but think of the ones who died,

They paid the highest of all the price,

They chose to make that sacrafice,

We take for granted what they’ve done,

Never once have we had to stare down,

The barrel of a gun,

And pull the trigger and not think twice,

And watch a bullet take someone’s life,

That person could be someone’s mom,

It could have been somebody’s dad,

It could have been a brother,

It could have been a son but it’s all too sad,

They live with what they have done,

To stand for this country and never run,

We say make it stop make them stay,

Yet we are the first to complain about freedoms,

That have been taken away,

What have you done to earn what you have,

Can you stand beside me and salute the flag,

Knowing what it means to serve,

And what it means to fight,

And what gives the rest of them the right,

To criticize what they do not know,

For we the soldiers of today ,

And the ones laid in the cold ground below,

I honor those who have fallen for glory,

I will try my best to pass on their story,

I may not know all their tales,

But what I do know is war is hell,

So hug the one you have standing by your side,

Hold the shaking ones and tell them it’s alright,

All they want is to be respected,

Instead of the way they been neglected…
