Poem Commentary

More birds

the feeder

Who has come to the feeder today?

Pine Grossbeaks but they could not stay

A tuffed titmouse with a whole lot to say

He said there is a Hawk in the nearby woods

The dark eyed Junco agreed he’s up to no good

With a fog rolling in and danger so near

A white breasted nuthatch quelches

A brown creepers fear

Soon the Chickadee’s relay begins

Two will fly out one will fly in

The birds at the feeder are as busy as Bees

Totally forgetting the Gosh hawk still perched in the trees

With no warning or care

He drops from his perch and takes to the air

A blue Jay has seen him but his cry is too late

A migrant weary Robin will not welcome his mate

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
