Poem Commentary

I wrote this when I was 15 years old, i've made some minor changes but the story is the same. I've written lots of poems sinse then, but this one still stands out to me.

The Great Me

My Great Grandfather was an army veteran

My dad's dad, he saved lives.

My father is a rocket scientist, and i wonder

who am I?

Perhaps I'll be an astronaut and travel around in space

or find a cure for the sniffle-snuffs

or discover a brand new place.

Maybe I'll be a billionaire, complete with house and yacht.

But wherever I go

and whatever I do

I'll remember who I'm not.

I'm not the one who you'll hear say,

"it's too hard so don't try"

I'm not the one who will turn away

when I see somebody cry.

That must mean that I'm somebody

no less someone than you..

I may not have it all planned out

but I'll be somebody too.

This poem was very moving to me. I was poker faced in the beginning, but teary in the end. Very real emotions that connect well with mental pictures.

Someone with a good heart and courage to excel in life. Sounds like a wonderful combination. I hope you have kept that sentiment to give your life direction. I agree everyone is important.

I like this one, it is very poignant and it makes you think about who you want to be yourself, if you already don't have that particular something going on in your life. i look forward to reading more of your work.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
