The Greatest Gift Of All

      The Greatest Gift Of All

Don't buy me diamonds, rings, pearls or furs, I have no need for such ostentatious things!
Nothing to cuddle and nothing to care for!
I don't need a barking dog or a whining cat, nothing to feed and nothing to clean!
I've enough to do and peace and quiet is where I'm at!
Don't bring me chocolates, coffee, wine, nor beer!
Nothing to read, and no baubles to hang from my ears

Don't bring me bags or shoes nor cloths, no bath salts or perfumes
Nothing precious, nothing old and please nothing to make me feel cold
Don't deck my halls with bells and holly, forget the tree and twinkling lights, I love so much
They mean little to me....... unless I see you
So keep your money in your pocket, it means nothing much to me
Don't waste your time in shopping malls, you'll find nothing there for me

No, the only gift I'd like from you, is things that you can't buy
Like, your spoken truth so that I can trust
A call so we can keep in touch
Your thoughts to speak aloud, so I can grow along with you
Your laughter too, 'cause when your happy, I am happy too
Your kind words to know you care, for all I need is to know your there
Your smiles also so I can smile along with you
And your arms to hold me tight, because only yours seem to fit just right
I just want the greatest gift of all!
The gift of love! And nothing more!

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
