    the other child

The other child always has friends over.
    Always going somewhere.
Always staying with friends, and me
    Not always going anywhere.
    Not staying with friends
Always putting up with the other child’s
Friends and the other child. Me, trying to
Be one of them, but yet still being pushed around,
Being yelled at, called names, being made fun of.
I’m easy to get along with, but my feelings are easily hurt. I’m easy to love, but my heart is easily hurt. They don’t see that.
Always being told that’s a guys job or thing to do. Being told to go do  a girlie thing or a woman’s job just because I’m a girl and the other child is a boy. I can do the same thing he can do, if given the chance, but won’t ever get one.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
