The Reckoning

The Reckoning

Life's greatest pleasures,
beyond a threshold of pain
do I embark, or should I abstain

Complacently watching,
as love passes by
no heartache, no worries, no sorrow, no lies

And should I embark,
could I reach my goal
as fear and distrust, now burden my soul

Do I placate my fears,
put my worries to rest
step out in faith, and pray for the best

Or sit silently watching,
my dreams pushed aside
succumb to betrayal, my passions denied

I like the abb pattern you have chosen for the poem.

Thank you

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
