The World in which we live

The World in which we live,
    Is getting smaller everyday,
    People are connecting,
    Across the whole wide world,
Soon the world will be so small,
    Everyone will be your neighbor.

The World in which we live,
    Is becoming so much smaller,
But then why do I feel alone?
    Everyone is my neighbor,
But know one knocks on my door.

In the World in which we live,
Where did all the people go?
I see profiles, chat rooms, and email,
But I don't see any people,
    Where did they all go?
    Hello, is anyone there?

    -----

    Despite the scholars,
    And their theories,
    It seems to me,
The World in which we live,
    Is becoming more vast,
    Instead of shrinking.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
