    Then there was You

You came to me with a hope and a dream.
You knew my pain from before and wrapped your arms around me.

But now I question who you really are and wonder what to do now.
If I leave I would struggle alone with the ones who do not need the pain of heart ache.
Would it only be a self serving purpose if I allowed the fire to go away?

What would I do alone again and with them to care for on my own?
Would it be that hard to do? Or would I want you to look a fool?
It is not your first time in this arena, but it would be mine and I am not sure I could deal with all that.

Should I go for what I want from this bond that we have?
Then should I leave if you are not changed?
I ask you time and time again for the truth..

..In the end you simply lie to my face or become mad and defensive and shut down. I hate your wrath so I won't ask... again.

But should you wonder why I am mad and why I am confused, you may start by looking up the key terms that you use and see what the whole world can see.
Stop making a fool out of me.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
