Think Too Much

People tell me that I'm too cerebral
That I think too much
But is that possible
To think too much
Here's a thought
Would you have said that to Einstein
"Einstein, dude, lighten up.  You think too much.  E=M, that's enough."
No
Of course you wouldn't have
Because it's not possible to think too much
I mean
It's possible to smoke too much
And drink too much
And watch Fox News too much
But it's not possible to think too much
How could it be
Along with the soul
Thinking is what defines us as people and sets us apart from the hamster and the raccoon and the aardvark and the platypus and the koala bear and the howler monkey
Although
Here's a thought
What if the concept of the soul is just a scam being perpetrated by the Catholic Church in order to sell bibles and ugly candles
And if you take the soul out of the equation
The only thing left which separates us from the bunny rabbit and the possum and the caribou and the panda bear and the Alaskan Snow Leopard and the African Spider Monkey
Is the ability to think
And how can you do too much of something that does that
Now
Here's a thought
Would you say to a dog
"You lick your own crotch too much"
No
Of course you wouldn't
Because that's how dogs define themselves
They lick their own crotches
So
Here's a thought
When we think
It's like we're licking our own crotches
And without the ability to think and/or lick our own crotches
We would just be vicious, snarling creatures instinctively lashing out with swift and horrible violence at anyone who threatens us
But
Here's a thought
There are lots of people like that in the world right now
We've all even voted for some of them
But maybe those people are like that because they don't think enough
Deep thought, huh?
And
Here's an even deeper thought
If a dog ever got up on its hind legs
And walked over to me
And poked me in the shoulder
And said
"You think too much"
Then
I would stop thinking completely
And start licking my own crotch
