    Tim's Pain

He drank everyday to hide his pain,
He wouldn't let us see that he was afraid.

He thought about things that scared him to death,
so he hid them inside until his death.

His thought about his brother, and the cancer that he had,
he thought about his family, and the death of his dad.

He figured he would end up the exact same way,
so he'd pick up a beer and drink everyday.

His family didn't know the things that he thought,
so when he would drink they always faught.

They couldn't see why someone would drink,
but he didn't care what they would think.

He only thought that it would help,
he didn't know he was killing himself.

He had finally found the woman of his dreams,
and he trusted her to talk about these things.

They got engaged, and told their families,
just to see what they'd say.

But later that night it ended up being his last living day.

So now we're all left to feel this pain,
now we know how he felt.

I wish if God was gonna play their cards so soon,
that their hand would have never been dealt.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
