    To a Leaf

You poked out your green head…
    Sprout, you did—
Your splendid color joining the symphony.

    You grew…
    Shape came to you—
And you presented it to the world.

    You faded…
Time touched you as it does all—
Still, you held for the right season.

    You broke free…
    Of the life you had—
    Floating from your own demise…

To spark the new life awaiting your push.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
