Unscrupulous Hopes...

Raving against an involuntary force,
Anguish surges inside me,
Bitter experiences of the past,
Still immoral; you flourish free,
Even today the wind carries,
A whiff of the burn,
That swallowed the lush fields,
Of my dreams!
The ruthless inferno raged,
Incessant;
Vain efforts I made,
To shelter you, close to my heart,
Within my smoldering robes,
Tongues of flame licked at my soul,
Wincing, I witnessed,
As you withered away,
To ashes!
Scalded, seared; permanently scarred,
Memoirs I carry around today,
Vowing, to never let you grow,
Lest again, you should decay!
Then why, do you live again?
When fate stares you in the face,
Every resurrection takes away,
From my spirit, another living trace!
You are mine, cultivated within me,
Yet betray me, is all you do,
Unscrupulous, devious, deceitful my hopes,
Push me into the blaze, anew!

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
