Poem Commentary

Just something I wrote for my sister

We have held you as you've cried............

Hi Mum it's your darling daughter,
Looking down from up above.
Just to tell you that I'm doing fine,
And to send you all my love.

Tell Dad to dry his tears,
It was no ones fault i know.
I will always be his little girl,
As I watch my brothers grow.

Mum, I miss my goodnight kisses,
I miss your tender touch.
I miss those bedtime stories,
I miss you all so much.

But do not worry, I'm not alone,
I've grandad at my side.
Even though you haven't seen us both,
We have held you as you've cried.

We have watched you bringing flowers,
Seen you wipe those tears away.
I will always be your little girl,
Now and every breaking day.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
