What Do Souls See

What Do Souls See

Walking through
your local cemetery
Your only thought is
"What do souls see?"

Do they see
The fiery pits of Hell
That horrid place they
Forever have to dwell

Do they see the cloudless
Skies of Heaven above
Where there is nothing
But joy and love

Do they see starry skies
If they're lost on this earth
Thinking neither Heaven nor Hell
They are worth

Do they see
Others as they mourn
Wishing from their arms
They were never torn

Do they see
Their corpses' eyelids
As they lie blindly
Beneath their coffis' lids

Do they see
Sunrises and sunsets
Watching them continually
With family or pets

Well I'll tell you what I see

I see a lonely child walking
Round a cemetery path
Soon to be joining us
From too much of his father's wrath

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
