Poem Commentary

Whispering Goodbye...

Whispered....

Whispered to self.....

"Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of."

For once, my only choice
is to reluctantly abide by the voluntary compliance
you've always had with me
that I've freely given
I wouldn't want my word to be
loosely packed with doubt, mistrust
or uncertainty

But, you can just include me out of the rest,
about forgetting about you
about not missing you
....because that will never, ever happen
It's the same difference as telling you to forget me

"Love is an emotion experienced by the many and enjoyed by the few."

But, bittersweet, right now, is the cold comfort
in being lost without your touch

That magical connection
the intimate affections
the painful recollections
and those...soft-spoken rejections.
they're playing over and over
in my head

Now...they are being taken over
by blank expressions
of the deafening silence
at the other end of a phone

Your ring tone
that threatens never to ring again

With eyes wide shut
all those forgotten memories
come dashing back
With fear...I sift through them
gently
sentimentally
.......
holding them close...to my silent breaths
as the spirit of me...breathes
and I reach out for you
feeling you so deep within me

Every mentally recorded live version
of fuzzy logic used..
is useless now, it seems
..... not worth a nickel when I need it the most

I'm sitting here
nursing a hole inside my heart
the size of a grapefruit
My feminine logic has betrayed me
once again

That one thing I found missing in love
...
I found in you

Something strangely familiar
about the air tonight...it's unsettling
almost scary as the days are gone
before I know it

Some true lies yet to be revealed
should the covers actually be pulled back
The true story will never be told
but they all will know...if the found missing pieces
ever come ashore
......
but then they will really see
and that will only make me
love you
even more

The truth was...the truth is...and the truth remains
that you were the best genuine imitation of wholesome love
I've ever experienced
I was terribly pleased to meet you
awfully glad to learn about you
and hopelessly optimistic
that this was just the beginning...
not the end

" The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time."

The short distance
between the constant change
and the intense apathy
was just right for us
There was something strangely familiar
about the noble savage
you were often portrayed as
because when we were alone together
it wasn't savagery at all
...it was the instinct we both have
and it's still moving both of us
a vague awareness,
and a whispered truth
we simply overlook about us
and that is

'our strength is really our weakness'

Fantastic poem. From the gut. Rhyme isn't contrived or forced. Deserves an award. Great work!

Poetry is what is lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
