    why ask why?

people see as deep as shallow puddles
in this age of war and troubles
lost amid the religious and mundane
    singing out the same refrain

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

but are they more than ants
    wearing designer pants
    canting out slavish rhythms
    suckered by prosaic aphorisms

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

never look beyond the plague of thought
    borne from demons evil rot
called holy in the halls of lie
can't you here the angels sigh?

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

shaking fist at all you hate
    inner demons can't thee satiate
you are the problem you seek to find
you are the blind among the blind

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

    God, the ultimate deception
    this cosmic astronomical erection
built upon your fear and loathing
whilst upon this earth gone roving

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

afraid to be examined in the light
    of honest inspection even slight
must hide behind some trite exclaim
or worser still that old refrain

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

so still amid the stars and shine
this earth a portrait so sublime
who'd suspect that on its lands
    are people sobbing into hands

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

and the sun looks upon its dear lover
which spins about with clouds that hover
and thinks it might be time to purge the place
and start again this odyssy of grace

    why me? why me?
    why is life like this?

ray of light I like this rant. It could be a rap song as well. Very true, this human condition of the world. I appreciate your rhymrs and style. ginga

Dark but poetry is suppose to speak to us from an emotional plane. I liked the touch of a refrain between stanzas.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
