Poem Commentary

From 2004.

With Nothing to Do and Two Lonely Hearts

Just sit and wait for tomorrow to arise
don’t close your shutters, Boy,
and you will see the sun’s first shine

and hey there, Girl,
why does he sit alone?
Go and join Boy in his mind
and with some time,
you both will feel at home.

Now sit and wait for tomorrow to come
don’t hide in your blankets, Boy,
put them away until the champagne’s done

and hey there, Girl,
why does he drink alone?
Go and join Boy in his cup,
and soon enough,
you both will share a home.

So sit and see that tomorrow is now here
don’t fall asleep now, Boy,
your day dreams speak, everything is clear

but hey there, Girl,
why must he dream alone?
So take his hand,
make him your man,
from this, you build your home.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
