Poem Commentary

Hope every one likes this one. I wrote it for my mother who died of breast cancer at the age of 59. She truely was my best friend and biggest fan.

Without You

Without you

You stole my heart when you went away
Just move on is what people say
I see someone who speaks your name
I smile as I breathe through the pain

You never told my heart how to love without you
You never told my mind not to think about you
My world has turned to blue
Trying to live without you, without you

A photo or a letter you sent to me
Or a dream of how it used to be
I sit alone with my memories of you
Now that my world has turned to blue

You never told my lungs how to breathe without you
You never told my mind not to think about you
My world has turned askew
Trying to live without you, without you

I hear your voice in the whisper of the wind
Telling me it will be alright again
Still as I stand here over this stone
I have never felt so alone

You never told my heart how to love without you
You never told my mind not to think about you
My whole world has turned to blue
Trying to love without you

 Tears fall down my cheeks
It doesn’t feel like years, just weeks
This pain will never end
I have lost my mother and my friend

How can I start anew
Trying to love without you

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
