You Don't Mind

  • Been way too long. Grad school was on hold. Graduated, now planning for wedding. Got to get back to writing poetry again.

You Don't Mind

You don’t mind leaving me lonely because you are

Used to a single dwelling of despair.

I figured you would know by now I need

Your loving care.

I’m so used to taking care of others that I often go unnoticed, it does not

Mean that I don’t deserve your admiration and devotion.

This really is unfair for me to give it all I

Have and to feel like I’m getting nowhere.

You don’t mind the separation that undermines

Our needed growth-call it what you will, but

I can feel the desertion of your mind, where there

Used to be a portion that was all just mine.

You can’t truly realize the gift that you’ve been granted, so

Now I have to suffer as a strong woman branded.

How is it for you to say you love me so, pull away, ignore for days,

And place yourself back inside?

You drink it up, pass the stuff, but what you’re not

Contemplating is am I giving her enough.

You don’t mind being oblivious to who and what

I am; if you really paid that much attention you’d be able to

Recognize that what you’d found was a woman

Of God’s great invention.

How is it you can displace my disappointment and hurt; how can

You go on without showing me what you say I’m worth?

You’ve said before that I’m everything to you, so what’s the deal and

Why can’t you show me what you find as real?

You’ve made choices; many without considering me, so now I’m

Wondering why you haven’t just asked to be free.

I love you deeply and always want to be there

For you, but I cannot go on pretending you will

Ever have a clue.

If you really desire to be my man think about what any

Woman would need to feel loved and adored, then give me

Twice as much and I will never want for more.

I’ve been waiting for what seems like eternity…while it seems

You’ve been filling your uncertainty; the question remains in who

You don’t trust-you or me?

Happiness is in the relationships we feed.

If not, we all lay hungry and don’t get what we need.

You don’t mind leaving things to chance, though all good comes from work;

So you sit around, let us drown and nothing comes to surface.

Take a stance, decide on this romance, or confirm it was never worth it.

I feel you are a strong woman...but may have taken a detour...Your words speak of indecision. What's in your heart is hard to deny. However, one's heart and mind may never agree. A good, heartfelt read. Write on.

Thanks. We all have our moments of indecision, but then sometime things become very clear-It is my 3 year anniversary today and was celebrated last night-all is well.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
