Afraid?

Did you know I was afraid?

Of who, you say?

Of you!

You who’s me, who makes all the decisions,

You who’s me, who stray from religion,

Who search for good,

A quite bit hood,

Trying to do the right thing,

But sometimes feel like she’s dangling from a string,

Do the right thing,

You know who you are,

Or do I,

Do you,

Did you know I am afraid?

Of you? No, me.

Confident, spiritual women,

Don’t know if I am going or coming,

I guess I should fear nothing,

But I do,

I fear the unknowing,

Cause it is unshowing,

Did you know I am afraid?

And here I sit with dark gloomy clouds,

Afraid of the possibility of success,

To make me proud,

To progress,

Yet I am scared and stressed,

Did you know I was afraid?

Of sex, did that

Of driving, did that

Of school, did that

Of change, did that

Of love, did that

Did you know I was afraid?

But most of my fears I somehow overcame

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
