    An Elegy To Derek

Derek never sat upon a throne.
He only sought for treasure in my heart.
Even though he has a castle to call home,
I cannot let the memory of him part.

He imagined the dew of night on summer grass
And thought of life and how it should have been.
Now he will only know of summers past,
And I have lost my best and only friend.

I once told Derek how I loved the sea,
And I asked him to come sit and talk awhile.
But deep down I knew that he knew more than me,
For as I talked he listened with a smile.

Tomorrow I'll place flowers on his grave
And I promise myself again I will not cry.
As I watch the petals float off on a wave,
I will stand on the distant shore and say goodbye.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
