Apology

Apologies spoken soft and regretful, the winds of loss blow

Carrying remorseful words through my defenses

With such a primitive act, I’ve lost all I know

Attempt at fortitude to deliver from this instance

But emotions betray my eyes; a dagger plunged from behind,

The sensation sends shudders along the spine

The stab of a disloyal lover cuts reason and mind.

And salt ridden blood spills from lost trust divine,

Bonds formed crumble in pain, with ease;

Stillborn dreams of the future fade into near silence,

Just the echoes of a persistent drip that I fail to seize.

Fury wells up above tears, an urge for violence,

Yet resolution hold and suddenly all’s repress,

A tactical retreat while this duplicity I ingest.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
