As we Gracefully Fell

Open your eyes
I need you to see absolutely nothing
Listen for those words
That are never going to be spoken
Feel for that touch
That is never going to be given
Gasp for that breath
Of fresh air that is never going to be exhaled upon you
Taste for that sensatious flavor
That is never going to be fed to you
Smell those sweet roses
That will never be grown to be given to you
Wake up my love
Let me show you what you built behind this veil
Let me sing you this song I wrote for the deaf
Let me touch the flesh you stripped from your body
Let me taste the spice you laced into your bland lips
Let me smell the sweet fragrance of nothing
That you created with every beautiful flower
You touched in my dead garden
Watch as I build a shadow large enough
To harness your destructive force
Wait for my voice to silently incinerate
Those screams inside your head
Let my hollow touch empty your fears of abandonment
Inhale my seductive poison so deep
It cleanses your corroded self
Taste the savage sting of my kiss
As it sets your cold blood ablaze
Walk with me to the edge of oblivion
And become one with all who have come before us
So desperately looking for someone

I love how you utilize opposites to express a love that seems to have gone sour. You have a talent and a way with words that only the muse could bestow. DQ

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
