Where I Thought I Belonged

Where I Thought I Belonged

Lie to me
Give me something to make sense of these feelings
Hurt me
Justify this need to leave you alone
Show me pain
So I can feel sorry for myself
Burn me
To push me further from us
Rip me up
And throw me away so I may be free
Destroy me
So all can see my demise and know why I am here
Here, looking clean, truly filthy with guilt
Here with the deceivers and those who chose to be wrong
Here where my heart despises my flesh
And dies with the mere thought of you
Here where I decimate my beauty
Only to praise my horrible
Here
Where I find myself
Without you

I love this piece. The emotion is so raw an unfettered. I love it.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
