Poem Commentary

I found this in one of my old middle school notebooks.

Ben

What are you doing now.
I wonder,
My son.

Do you sleep now
In your crib
As I sit
Thinking of you
My son.

I miss you.
Do you miss me?
Do you know me?
Will you remember me
When I come home?
My son.

So young
And innocent,
My son.

Are you causing some
Mischief now
Perhaps
My son.

The world is
So new
To you
My son.

This world
Is
Known to me.
It is a dangerous place.
My son.

I'm far away from you now.
Trying to make it
A safer place to be.

Will you understand,
My son?
Is my decision right?
Will you know
Our love
Knows  now boundaries
Of time or space?

My son.
No matter
What separates,
Or how long  away
I shall be.
My love,
Is always
With you.
And your love
With me.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
