    Choices

A choice is the freedom to make life secure
For ourselves and those around us

Some choices we make are so easy and sure
We make them without much a fuss

The choice of a child is a purpose for some
Their lives to enrich and make whole

For others the news of a child is not welcome
Interruption of life’s dreams and their goals.

So how does God choose where the spirit of a babe
Is sent to be with each one for all time?

Surely we trust that no mistake could be made
For His plan always proves to be sublime.

For children not expected two choices are clear
Only one can be chosen for peace.

The one choice takes babies to Heaven so near
    The mother feels temporary release.

The other best choice given to a family who waits
To hear of a child without home

With good news to hear as they anticipate
To fill up an empty house of their own

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
