Don't Stop Believing

Dreams don't pay the bills they say,
so why do they keep us alive?
Musicians to poets, the art put away,
just so the kids can survive.
I wonder, how did they exist before...
...before the minimum wage?
Working for themselves, teaching youngsters to soar?
Having their dream even past old age.
If we stop believing, we lose the hope,
keeping our ancestors' spirits free.
Don't need the powder, or the bud to cope,
if they'd let me just be me.
From alcohol, to steroid use, using pills to stay awake.
Just to make it day by day,
without seeing the earnings that you make.
I've been repeating this message,
ever since I could read.
For that I thank my stubborn mother,
staying home to take care of me.
To teach me the meaning of being strong,
"The gift God gave you is how you live."
So don't stop believing if you trust in love,
because the best is all you can give.

I love you mom.

This poem is quite a piece! I can relate to it well, for my own mother taught me the same. The world is cruel, but dreams can make a person more than most anyone is willing to see. If I want something with all of my heart, I know that I can have it, though it is hard to make others understand this. Thank you for sharing! Very well written and expressive. Keep posting!

Your mom is very proud of her daughter, this I can say for sure.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
