Dream A Little More

I close my eyes and beheld a splendor

Of an un-foretold story of great mysterious and pleasure

Relax my head-I did and dreamt of a reveling time

Passing me great distances, of a beauty that was mine

I stare at a wonder far as the distance stars

Perpetrating itself and dances away from the cause

I see now, here…beyond my wildness dreams

Something tangible and so tenderly as it seems

It touches my every senses and compels me with thousands rays

Upon my weary head it dances…had me reaching for endless days

It plays a mystery, like an un-reveling crime

Chases me with agony by that moment that was mine

I see now, as I lay asleep in bed

I must dream this dream for sure

So anxiously I must sleep

And dream a little more.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
