    Poem Commentary

This poem was written as the best way to describe my wonderful family who I saw a few months ago. They are such wonderful, strong women and I treasure them more than anything.

    FAMILY TREASURE

    Sitting here listening, thinking

    Anne Murrey singing Daydream Believer

A fine thought breezes into my mind

Whispers of lightness among the old dark

My good Aunties gathering 'round me,

their love strong like big oaks

    and their arms like branches,

they lift me up on their sturdy shoulders

and I can keep on studying the skies

    watching for redbirds taking wing,

sun drifts among clouds plotting with the winds

And that never-ending horizon gliding off into nothing If I had no family who loved me I would be poor

but with The Love I felt that night I am beyond rich

because as in the Bible it says

"For where your treasure is, your heart will be also."

    My family are my treasures

    And there sits my mom

Her sweet, soft hands and round eyes

    watching, listening, absorbing

We get to sing together and I hold her

We talk late into the night

and she tells me things I didn't know

filling in some of the blanks in my memories

Without her I would be lost

And Kathy: A miracle sent to me by God

to bring me closer to my family, my history, my bloodlines

Just when I want it all so much

and when I come home I have the strength

To Tell people NO....to take care of myself

because I am loved by the ones

who when you have nowhere else to go

They have to let you in.

Dedicated to my Family Get Together March 2009

    I love you all.
