For a dying loved one

    For a dying loved one

Warmed by the memory of my loved one
My brother who passed away; bereavement
I mourned and grieved with each passing day
I held him very close to my heart in silence.

He took care of me when I was a child
He gave me assurance to be around
He showered me his caring presence
Like when I was living with him.

I still remember when he’d come home
late in the evening while we’re in the living room
he’d have something to share with us
like food for snacks or stories to tell.

His own family, along with his wife
were to dear to my heart, fond and true
his children when they used to play
I’d be their guardian to watch for them.

However, when that time he fell ill
the whole family came to assist him
it’s a sad moment to find out that,
his sickness might shorten his life.

More than a month he’s laid in bed
so sick and helpless that he couldn’t talk
it was hard to accept that he’d die soon
leaving his own family in deep affliction.

And prayers and words of consolation
to a dying person, my own brother
with his family members and others around
he died in peace with a nod of acceptance.

Whenever I think of him in silence
I can’t help but be moved with tears
he’s a real brother, a good father to his children
a loving husband in his journey of completion.

I could feel the emotions in the poem grear one that brought me to tears.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
