    Poem Commentary

Sometimes, there are some cultural codes of which if you are not aware you won’t get the massage. The following poem seems to be an example of this. To help the reader, I feel I need to talk a bit about one of Iranian traditions related to The New Year (or Nowruz, as we call it).

There are different traditions to which Iranians show great respect. Among them I should refer to buying some fish and keeping them till the thirteenth of Farvardin(January). People keep these fish in various glass dishes made in different shapes and colors know as “Tong”. Then, on the 13th day, people go to open places near their cities and try to have fun with other relatives and family members. They release the fish in rivers and pools around. It’s a symbolic action perhaps to say that our feelings are similar to those fish in some sense.

    moving around

    here

    and there

    WITH HER BLACK EYES

    awaits a happening

    the little

    and red

    fish!

excellent blueroad.....reminds me of the jewish tradition of casting out bread on the waters, symbolizing casting off our sin and shortcoming....do it on our new year......and happy new year to you and yours

Don't really understand this one, Need to fill in the blanks, not enough information to work with. But keep trying just need to make them a little longer to make more sense.

You're right. There is some gaps in the poem and I think it's the gaps that make the poem more artistic. The key to get the point is simple: What if YOU are the little red fish?!

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
